When I stumbled across Ren and heard her incredible voice, I knew straight away that I really wanted to write a song for her. 'Safe' is the result. Ren's thoughtful lyrics paint a poignant picture of a difficult situation, in which one is trapped and desperate to leave, in the hope that they can feel safe again.
lyrics
know...you are near...when the lights go...out...
I can't, think straight
When I'm next to you,
I'm out of place,
When your words cut through
Like glass, I'm little tiny pieces in the mirror,
Shrink myself now
Pretend that I'm not here
Printer ink run out...
I can't breathe right,
Like I did before,
Losing my fight,
Stays behind closed doors...
And all,
All I can hear...
Is the raised-voice sound
I know, that you are near...
To, feel safe (All I ever wanted)
Safe, from you... (and the rasied-voice sound)
Safe,
All I've ever wanted
To feel safe from you...
And I try and I try but there's no escape,
In my sleep I crash down wild-awake
Visualising, of a time when
I can be free
As I exhale,
Into the cold air,
Open my eyes,
You won't find me there
And all, all I can hear...
Is the raised-voice sound
I know,
That you are near,
When the lights go out...
...and the raised-voice sound
(ooh...ahhh)
When the lights go...
Safe,
All I've ever wanted to feel,
Safe,
From you.
Take,
there is nothing much left.
That I can,
Take,
With me.
Ah...ah...
Oooh...ooh
Ahh...Ahh
Ahh...ahh..ahh
Safe,
All I've ever wanted,
To feel
Safe,
From me...
Safe,
There is nothing much left
That I can take,
With me
Ahh...
I know that...
You are near...
When the lights...
Go...
Four years ago, after my previous band imploded amidst arguments about Twitter, beer and submarines, I grabbed a dodgy old
keyboard, a couple of guitars and a broken computer in the hope that I could create a few tunes.
Since then I have wandered between electronica and punk, from dance to disco.
Things often fail but to me that is all part of this fun musical ride that I am on....more
